• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

OK dummy redneck with a couple of buds in him but here is my questions.

1.When a major drug co. introduces a "new" drug to the market it is not very long until a rival drug co. introduces it's own generic equalivilent without the FDA stopping them.

2. Why cant pro voice be reverse enginered (though it is well known by communications folks what works and don't) and be called a generic product and put into a scanner to recieve all transmissions other than encrypted (which would be by the broadcasters choice) this would sure slow down Tyco MA/COM's selling features and make an EDACS pro voice capable scanner cheaper.

If ProVoice is reverse engineered and put into scanners, Ericsson will sue the maker to the grave.

Actually when a new drug is introduced it carries a patent and generics are not produced until the patent runs out. Once the patent runs out, the original manufacturer has exclusive rights to produce the generic for a certain amount of time. Only after that time are other manufacturers allowed to produce generics and then under strict regulations of the FDA.

Software and algorithims can be protected by copyrights as well as patents.
Copyrights don't expire the way patents do.
