I'm curious about the operation of the Germantown Emergency Center ("GEC") that opened a couple of years ago in Montgomery County and is operated by Adventist Healtcare Systems; wonder if anyone here is familiar with it. Specifically, Ambulance 709 from Hyattstown seems to do a large number of routine transports between GEC and Shady Grove Hospital, obviously for patients who need to be admitted to a hospital rather than treated and released. Also, a lot of these take place at odd hours, i.e. during the late evening and late into the night (say from 11:30 p.m. to the "wee hours". Does the Hyattstown FD have some kind of special arrangement with the GEC for these transports? And why are they done late at night? Other EMS units also do these transports, but A709 seems to get the bulk of them.
