Good afternoon ,
I have a few questions before i invest in any thing
i was thinking of possibly getting a scanner and possibly move to ham later ,
the problem i think i may have is getting out ,
I live SW Wisconsin and its very hilly and i live at the bottom of a sharp valley ,
there was once a antenna on top of the hill it still has i believe a RG-500 (alum , trunk cable ) running up there
from the house to the old antenna spot is close to 300 yards ,
so the question is,,,, will that work using the old cable ? assuming its not cut any place , i know i will have to replace the fittings back to good copper , but how much power will i need to push it that far to the antenna to use with ham , once i get a tower
and will it work for a scanner antenna or a combination of both ?
topo so you can kind of see where it runs , red dots = cable
green deer stands ( don't mind them ) old topo
so what are my options here ?
thanks mdel747
