There's repeater on 462.725 somewhere here in the Los Angeles area that transmits a recording every five mintues. It's annoying and seems designed to run others off the frequency. It says, "This is the LA Echo One Repeater" and no one can figure out who they are.
It's a Mexican repeater near Azuza. It's part of an informal local network of spanish users around Socal and Baja Ca. They use 91.5pl it's an open repeater.
There are a a bunch of others around Socal.
The Mexicans are big on the simplex operations into Mexico and love them some high power...and super 8 element yagi's. They are happy to say "Hi"in English or Spanish if you ask nicely. They try to stay on spanish speaking channels, but often use ANY repeater they can access to establish communications into Tijuana,Ensenada, Rosarito etc.
They love those simplex-long distance hops. Ask for Miguel #545 in DTLA or Charlie in Tijuana. Those guys ignite when conditions are ripe.
If you want...there is another English speaking machine on Mt.Wilson that just got activated and has great coverage and very few users. It's a free speech repeater and it's part of the Red-White and Blue-America First System that is growing out of San Diego.
462.725 PL 100.0
467.725 PL 100.0
(Not yet linked to entire RWB system-stand alone repeater)
The RWB system in San Diego is linked to four sites in Socal and is open , yet unlisted on the GMRS sites.
I have mapped some of the linked system that is active in Ca and S.Western AZ.
*462.675 PL.118.8 (Govt Peak San Diego) Shares output PL with another site called "Orange" near MX border.
*462.600 Output PL 118.8 (Camp Pendelton-Wire Mountain) North San Diego/Oceanside
*462.675 TVL CH 141.3 input and output located in Fortuna Foothills of Yuma County Arizona
*462.675 PL 118.8 in and out. Covers South Bay Los Angeles from the USAF Space Command (LAX) in El Segundo,Ca.
But be warned...
The Red-White-Blue System seems to be somewhat "Wild West" ,and has some funny and heated debates on politics and current events. It''s for "Mature Audiences Only". They mostly use first names, some unit numbers and some handles. Very,Very informal.
They claim to be an open repeater, and have a funny invite/use policy..
"If you can figure out how to open up our repeaters...then you are open to join."
The "unlisted" Socal repeaters are the best, you just have to search them out since the best ones (no constant radio checks) are NOT listed on the popular GMRS websites or repeater directories.
Have Fun!
If you find new unlisted cool systems, or have updates on RWB system configurations. Let me know.
Tks!
