The same could be said about highways. Everyone is supposed to play by the rules and drive the speed limit but nobody does. Also nobody goes out of their way to harass speeders and report them unless they are truly reckless. The same should be said about radio but for some reason, it doesn’t work that way.
I guess my point is that Ham operators like to take the role of the police when they themselves don’t always follow every rule. Many communicate on a regular basis, which could reasonably be furnished alternatively through other radio services. Many use their HAM radios for FRS or GMRS disregarding the Part exemption and doing so on more wattage. Some go over 10 minutes without transmitting a call sign.
But if another group of homes in on their location and busted them, they wouldn’t take too kindly to that.
Where are you that youre copying it? Haven't heard anything on the bearcat here and usually keep the gmrs stuff in the scan list for giggles...

Context. It's clearly explained in English.Speeding?.............Ham Operators? WTF does any of this have to do GMRS? Holy Smokes................................
Anyone else hearing GMRS pirates using P25 encryption on GMRS in the NY/NJ area? I'm not a radio cop, but it is becoming annoying. Thoughts?
I doubt it's LE, probably organized crooks using a wide area system.. The criminal element has gotten wise to NOT Using cell phones for their activity, especially Mules and other ops... Even Neighborhood Gangsters are getting caught with FRS radios (2 watt version) from time to time. The Alert feature on the FRS radios is popular for the quick hookup and sale.. Some LE is aware of this, but not much can be done, you can't do a wiretap on an FRS Radio, and they can only be heard for a couple miles at best...
Years ago, here in New England, we had a "675" GMRS running DVP/DES
guess what - it was LE who since they were LE or 'RETIRED' LE - felt entitled
Since it is ENC, we may never know the REAL answer until the FCC takes them down.

Same applies here. A bunch of active and retired law enforcement, firefighters and EMS folks operate at least 5 or more repeaters called the Blue Comm network and they occasionally use P25 with encryption. Looking on the MyGMRS web site I see another large network of repeaters that may be using encryption also just going by the name of the network...JCAES network in northern new Jersey. AES right in the name, I think we have a winner!
Just look at the non-sense they include with all there site postings on the MyGMRS web site. We definitely have a winner I think!

myGMRS.com is a General Mobile Radio Service community where users can search and submit repeaters in their area.mygmrs.com
No, you inquired about a specific message with a specific context. He explained perfectly how the subjects were analogous but you chose to act like a troll and feign not understanding the correlation. Now, you are attempting to expand the scope of that specific context after the fact. This is another troll behavior.Yes, I get the context. Rambling, crotchety, finger wagging, "get off my lawn" troll speeches about minding my business or changing the dial, as well as whining about HAM operators, stalking, etc. I have no interest in any of that nonsense.
A hundred years ago (or so it seems), when CB was more or less "on the level," it was because the radios were expensive (relative to the economics of those days), as were good antennae and mics. If you had a base radio, and wanted to put on in your car, a lot of people had to seriously think about spending all that extra money on a "hobby."
However, as the price of the radios decreased, and the technical knowledge needed to maintain and improve a station (like how to properly use a soldering iron) was dwindling, CB turned into what it's generally known as today.
What makes anyone think that the same thing won't or can't happen to GMRS....if it hasn't already...and for the same reasons?
Great post, I wouldn't waste my time complaining to the FCC though, they could care less. There is no glory or money in enforcing GMRS violations.P25 and other digital modes are not permitted on GMRS because they are flat out annoying to everyone else. We have a guy out here that occasionally engages NXDN and it makes the frequency unusable for anyone else. If we keep ignoring people that do this pretty soon you'll have this kind of non sense on every channel. Get as many people as possible to beef him to the FCC and at least try to handle it the right way. As for them being law enforcement. Well, I don't know how anyone would know that but if they are they can follow the rules like everyone else. I'm retired law enforcement and I follow the rules and try to be polite to others on the air so no one is exempt. GMRS is a great resource that should be expanded and the attitude of just change channels and throw up your hands is not the right approach.

I get the sentiment but malicious interference isn't the answer. Two wrongs don't make a right.
it's either NYC or NJ. Several different GMRS freq's. Mostly GMRS 21 and 22.
