has anyone had the idea of getting a GMRS repeater setup for the lackawanna county and maybe lower lackawanna and east luzerne.? I have been thinking it would be a great idea if a couple people around the area who would want to set it up and could get something going. i think it would benifit the area.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_1_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9B206 Safari/7534.48.3)

I've wanted to do it since moving here in '06. Lots of hurdles... built a limited range version of my own. 1st major question: Where? (tower/mointantop site). 2nd questiom(s): RF engineering, interference mitigation, etc. Of course money will be no problem....

Count me in, regardless. Not trying to be negative, just know that are a lot of hurdles when you undertake a GMRS repeater. I overcame mine by the fact that the entire system is on private property, and not co-located on a tower or near any other radio system. The price paid for those luxuries was extremely limited range. For a lot of people to get behind and support a GMRS repeater, they will want to be able to use it. That means a mountaintop or tower. Ideal scenario: someone with mountaintop property and an existing high structure, like a silo, who will provide the location.... and agreement from the property owner's liability insurance company. Next best scenario: Provider of LMR services in the area donates space on one of their towers for a GMRS repeater, fully cognizant of the fact that there will be RF interference issues to be worked out, damage and liability issues, and that they will be negatively impacting potential sales. What's in it for them to do such a thing? Public service? Then why not an amateur radio repeater?
