A couple of months ago Upman was in town for a trade show. He and I got together one evening to do a real life comparison between the SDS100 and my 436 on our local simulcast system, which can be challenging.

I was very impressed by how much better the SDS100 performs. It didn't have nearly the simulcast distortion and it was receiving at distances farther than I expected it to.

Interesting. Does this mean that the SDS100 still had simulcast distortion, but it just wasn't as bad?

1) Commercial radios have simulcast issues under some conditions. No one can claim 100% free from simulcast decode issues.

2) Sample being used was an engineering sample with a few known issues that prevented it from performing as well as final production design units.

3) Even with 1/2, above, decode quality was significantly better than BCD436HP and nearly as good as the duty radio.

I am expecting final production to come very close to commercial radio decode quality under most conditions.
