I will likely be going to the 2009 Winterfest in Lansdale this year, as I have for many years, but this year I have a 396. Normally I hit 95 to 476 for Plymouth Landing then ride that all the rest of the way up. I'm coming from Maryland, and am solid with the programming through Wilmington.

Of course following that path, I skim through part of Philadelphia, and I'm not sure that it's worth programming the Philly system, seeing that I'm not going through the city proper, and know that the system is designed to have its max coverage in that area. I could use some
pointers. I will, of course, be using the PhillyScanner guide and the database to program. I'm sure I'll want stuff from Delaware and Montgomery counties (which I'll import via FreeScan, then update with the guide), and I've already got a handle on the PSP stuff.

Well from that location you'll be just skirting the PHiladelphia system to your West. So as you travel up 476 you will get some marginal reception until you get past say the Pennsylvania Turnpike East-West. From Lansdale you'll hear Bucks, Montgomery, and probably a little of either Lehigh or Berks. It's been a long time since I've been up that way, long before I knew what a BCD396T was! But last summer I did monitor all the way up the Northeast Extension from the PA turnpike to the exit after the Lehigh Tunnel and thats pretty much what I got. So good luck have a safe trip and a good time!

Thanks for responding. Yeah I guessed that the Philly system would be marginal at best. No surprise there, but thanx for the info anyway 73 Mike

Once you get into PA, the majority of your travel is going to be in Montgomery County so that might be the better system to program. You will be in Delaware County for a brief time on 476. Right around the Plymouth Meeting area you can catch a whiff of the Philly System but once you get on the turnpike going north it is going to fade fast.

Have a safe trip
