I have a Uniden Bearcat 256t scanner, with the stock antenna and was just wondering what, if any, would be a better antenna for my scanner to improve reception. I listen to VHF/UFH/EDACS and i dont want to mount an antenna on my roof =P.

I'm guessing you meant to type 246t?

If you don't mind something 18 inches long, the Diamond RH77CA is super popular with scanner users as a great general-use antenna that performs exceptionally well across nearly all bands. It's been in production for at least a decade which tells you something about its popularity and performance.

It's about $25 no matter where you buy it from.

yes you caught me on my typo, it is a 246t. And thanks for the info, i have also seen that the Radio Shack 800mhz antenna is pretty good? Do you have an opinion on this?

The Radio Shack 800mhz antenna is awesome antenna for 800 band with little loss in the other bands, for general scanning the Diamond RH77CA also called the Watson 881 Super Gainer on scannermaster is a great antenna, although its really long, its worth it if a long antenna isn't a problem. I went from about a 20mile radius to close to 50miles... While I know that may not be typical results, I can attest that both are really good antenna's...I have them both, and swap them out quite often depending on what I am doing...

I also use the RS 800 Mhz antenna for my portables and find it works well on the vhf aero band, too. At $19.95 it is priced right. I took a razor blade and scrapped off the orange markings on the base, thought it looked too amaterish. Very good product!

Thanks for all the help, i think i will start off with the RS antenna, and when i have some money burning a hole in my pocket later, i will get the other one, and put it on the interior side of my window sill and hook my scanner up to it when im home.
