Hi all,

ok im now after a new antenna for the car, i have a dual bander for my Icom 208 and need a good antenna for the 396T in the car, I hav a std base (not pl259) mounted off the front 1/4 and bonnet area and need to fit a good antenna to it.

I will mainly listen to airband and NSW P25 GRN (415-420mhz), what do you guys suggest, I dont mind paying good coin but I want a good antenna! I use a Mobile 1 ScatX and its rubbish, want something decent.

thanks

Jas

I run a Larsen tribander through a glassmount base on the side glass of my fiberglass shell, and this thing shines bigtime in the uhf range-I get San Jose here in San Francisco at 40+ miles off this thing. It sucks on vhf lo, maybe 3 miles max, but I have received SFPD at 800megs from the Peninsula at 12 miles which aint too bad.If you can get this thing on a hard ground mount like it ideally should be, I believe you will be very pleased with it.

Larsen nmo 2/70, quite simply a solid antenna. I listen to an air ambulance service that is at 422Mhz and it works really well. Airband works well, V/Uhf ham band works really good, and uhf low is good too. Stay away from thru-glass, NMO 2/70 on a mag mount, centre of the roof will run circles around a glass mount, if your not listening to 800Mhz then go with the 2/70.

That's where it does its best as I said in that other post-the uhf range. I just gave its performance in the 800 and vhf lo ranges to show my experience with it. It will kick butt on 415 megs:)
