Hello everyone. Im trying to find a ballmount to put on the side of my buick century. I found some hustler mounts and also procomm mounts. Was wondering if anyone has had either and did it work. I will be using the ballmount for my 102 and will be trimming it down for 10m or 6m. Thank you to anyone that can help

Check with Radio Shack, they MIGHT have one there, but probably you'll need to look around as MOST fools working them places wouldn't know what a ball mount was.

The best 'ball-mount' I've ever seen produced lately (last 10 years) is made by 'Breedlove'. Google for his web site and take a look.

has anyone used the hustler mounts? Read that the radioshack mounts were junk, this true?

It's true.

Just about everything Radio Shack sells is junk. The Hustler mounts are fine. If you can get an Antenna Specialists mount, get one.

so i looked on breedmounts website, and found in the custom made page, and he has a ball mount that uses a small square backing plate, for around 45. Or should i go with the one in the ballmount kit that is around 80? Im going to use this for my cb antenna. But would the small square backing plate be enough?? Or would the hustler be good enough for the antenna?

I've had several Rad Shack ball mounts thru the years and ALL have worked very well. BUT if anyone feels they're junk that's their opinion.

I have the ball mount with the round mounting plate with a little Tarheel antenna on it, and I can say it is one well built antenna mount. For a 102" whip I would say the ball mount for $45 would do just fine. The mounts are ten better than a Radio Shack mount.

something to add. I park in a low carport. I will have a spring on the 102, but will this cause problems? The height is around 6ft where the antenna would be. would this cause the hustler ball to turn?

Are you serious? They are ALL the same!!!! [Probably made in the same factory]. The Rad Shack one is only 20 dollars while the Hustlers are around 40. Made with the same material, designed the same way, last just as long.

I am serious, and don't call me Shirley

"Are you serious?"

Surely you can't be serious.

No the are not the the Breedmounts are hand made buy one individual in his own factory.

"Made with the same material, designed the same way, last just as long."

No, made with different material, a much more sturdy design, and will not loosen up easily on you.
I would rather spend a few extra bucks and buy a good quality product from some one who cares about his customers and knows about his product, than from some corporation, but that is just me. If the OP walked onto a radio shack and ask any question about the mount they try to sell him a Cell Phone.

Whatever you decide on, be sure you are getting stainless steel and not chrome-plated steel. The more expensive Hustler is definitely stainless. As others have noted, if you can find an old Motorola version they were built to last forever.

The reason I said that Breedlove is the best I've seen in the last ten years is because that's how long it's been since I've tried to use a ball-mount. The last several I've had (Radio Shack/Hustler included) I've had break. No, they weren't holding up a 102 inch whip. It was either a 'BugCatcher' or a screwdriver antenna, and they ain't 'small'. The Breedlove mounts will handle things like that very easily.
Something else to think about is that if you think you require a larger backing plate, Breedlove will be happy to furnish you with whatever size you want. You will pay for it, of course. He'll also built a mount to your specifications if you want one. I'm sure that you can guess that you'll also pay for that, right? But Breedlove is very easy going, will tell you if something's possible or not, and will honestly try to help you if you give him a chance. If something he makes breaks, you really must'a used a big hammer on it.
I'm not doing a commercial for Breedlove, he wouldn't know me even if I bit him. If YOU can get him to pay me for doing commercials for him, please do! It'd be one of the easiest jobs I ever got, he does good stuff.
