With the approaching storm coming our way late monday into tuesday, they are still calling for sustained winds of 70 to 100 km/h here in southern ontario. I can only imagine that all first responders will be busy. Hydro, transit systems, public utilities etc etc. Keep an ear to your radio's

Environment Canada is saying there could be widespread power outages due to a lot of the trees still having leaves on them and coming down.

Myself I have all my batteries charged, lots of water, 40 pounds of propane for cooking on the BBQ if the power goes out. And the generator topped up.

Cheers everyone.

Wish I could still listen to hydro here, but its TRBO now. : ( Always loved listening to them in bad weather and power outages. Marine frequencies should be interesting too. I can usually track the ships through this area on aprs.fi

Google Maps APRS

Using Echolink its always nice to log into other storm conferences in the storm areas too.

Hey tilt don't you still have your scanner tapped and software running? I can listen to the Hydro in my area now using the computer software to decode.

What sort of scanner are you using? Or the setting on the frequencies? Do you have a delay set so when it stops on one it holds there for a bit? I only seem to have luck if I hold on a frequency and mainly the CC. When scanning the audio breaks up and jumps from one person talking to another, all broken up. So kind of gave up on it.

I've got my gear ready to go. All my portables are charged, I have 3 sets of AA's charger for the Pro-106 and 2 42ah lead acid batteries charging for whatever needs them. I was in Sarnia this morning at the wind was considerably higher there than it is over London way. Saw a few trees down already, dragging some cable lines down with them.

Whatever shakes out, everyone stay safe! Not sure if I should go setup a cot at the fire hall or stay home lol

Been charging up all my AA's today too. All 24 of them and my spare handheld ham transceiver batteries also. So far its been quiet here for fire other than some accidents. I guess the tree trimming has done well to prevent some trouble spots. Winds are gusting to 65km/hr last time I looked. For those who aren't aware of this site, you can track power outages in our area. Looks like more serious trouble in chatham with over 3,000 people out of power. Going to monitor them on the scanner now to see what's up.

Its great but too bad doesn't include Windsor. : ( Stuck here with Enwin

Wow, things seem to be getting worse in the chatham area, now west elgin too, another 3,000 without power

Update: I see chatham is almost all up again so that's good. Haven't been able to pick up their utility from here. Found another 30 new alkaline AA's so I think I'm set for a while to keep the scanner and ham radio going.

Lambton Dispatch barrelling in from Chatham Tower on a mag-mount while mobile near Lakeshore-Tecumseh yesterday. Must have been bouncing of those big black clouds.

Hope everyone made it through ok ! It seems the worst is over. The winds were howling through out the night. Here at the shack no power outage, no trees down. Heard some interesting calls after 10pm on the radios.

Heard a great deal of Burlington city works as well as what I am now sure of are Halton Region talkgroups on the Halton system. Lots of new UID's (RIDS) popped up.

Burlington Hydro were out there last nite, very busy.

Caught Burlington Volly Station 5 out on a call right on the border with Milton.

I dunno if anyone here uses the weather networks app for blackberry. Last night while the winds were howling and I mean HOWLING at 65-90 k I checked the app I have for Burlington: light rain +4 N21 wind.

Are you pucking kidding me? I dont know if they use HIA or the pier right around Easport but there was no way in wherever that the winds were down below 50 K at 11 pm last nite.

Not impressed by our Env Canada website and less impressed by the Weather Network.

I think you guys got it a lot worse than us. We had power outages in Kingsville mainly. And EJB, Weather reporting around here blows so we usually listen to Detroit. Suggest you do the same with Buffalo- say what what you want but the Americans seem to know what's going on when it comes to WX. Incidentally your dog looks like my ****zu- but bringing us screaming back to topic, lots of power lines and trees down here. County 420 Mhz system was jumping all night. Not much MTO action on Fleetnet tho.
