I'm looking for a good outdoor antenna for my TRX-1. Need something that is rather small if possible, something with good reception. What are you guys using and are you happy. Thanks!

Keep in mind that in that range outdoor antennas can be large. So it depends on how small of antenna and are you limited on space ?

Not going to have much luck with air band with something small. The lower the frequency, the longer the whip you'd need for optimal reception.

Depending on what you consider small, either of these would work great for aircraft.

I have had a Diamond D130J discone on the roof for the last 6 years. Great performance and it has stood up to the weather as well. If I had to I'd buy another.

A good ground plane kit with multi-band antenna does pretty well for me. I don't monitor a whole lot in the aircraft bands (only periodically) , but it works well everywhere else. You can utilize NMO antennas that are easily interchangeable with the ground plane kits. Check out The Antenna Farm. They have a good selection.
