Awesome pursuit then standoff the other night (hear the scanner feed here!)

Here's a link where you can download and listen to the scanner traffic from College Station (TX) PD a couple nights ago. Around midnight, an officer called out on a traffic stop and immediately requested another unit, so I started recording. Wound up turning into a multi-agency pursuit and then eventually a barricaded suspect with HNT and SWAT callout. I've edited the feed to only include traffic pertinent to this call, and have also cut out large sections of silence (compressed for length, as the call actually lasted several hours in realtime). There are quite a few cool parts and even some funny parts as frustrations mount. Just right-click on the link below to Download File As or Save File As. Lemme know what you think.

Why would that be a concern? It's public record, is it not? Otherwise it would have been transmitted on scrambled channels.

What i've been told, i'm currently in dispatcher training, is EVERYTHING is PUBLIC RECORD. From radio traffic, phone calls, messages sent between dispatchers on the CAD messeger, to EMAIL.

I think a public safety dispatcher would know what he is talking about. And why the paranoia? The audio is being made public, if the PD didn't want anyone but them to listen in, they can always encrypt their communications. There is no way to monitor encrypted messages as we all know, but if you attempt to somehow, thats where you can get into trouble.

CAuse California Laws are SRICT LOL
YEAh Id take the dispatchers word over all to
But he is in NM
I've actually considerd moving to New Mexico a while back
and may one day still BUT ANYWAY thast off topic lol
However each jursdiction can make thier own laws,
Besides, you all have given me an idea
I will call Monday the local landlines and inquire about laws and recording and scanning etc
plus I HAve been meaning to ask arund of how to tip off the dispatch IF I saw a suspect that was describbed on the radio..
So to get back on topic lol
YEah GOD recording you should try Xcorder as well
It is VOX??!!?? meaning that there should be NO dead air
Dead Air not only consumes time but eats uop memory as well

I just run the audio out from my scanner and into my computer's Line In jack, then use an audio recording program to record from that jack. I'm not aware of any "VOX" recording programs for Macintosh. Are you? I'd never really thought about that before, but that goes make sense.

Scanner recordings

Thanks AggiePhil for your great recording!

I also record constantly- bought me a 200Gb HDD cheap just for wav recording- later I compress them to MP3 and burn to DVD-R.

My local PD has just switched off the analog network, after 2 years of transitioning to trunked P25- which was being simulcast on both analog and digital. ALL Police channels are fulltime encrypted now- and the analog network is totally silent! At least I have many hundreds of hours to remind of the good ol' days! But after 17 years of listening- it is very strange indeed to have such silence in the shack!

BTW- I use a Radioshack 5 input mixer to my Sound Blaster Live sound card. In line between mixer and P.C. is an audio isolation transformer to prevent ground loops. I use Scanner Recorder to do the sampling from up to 5 different radios.

Well this managed to go far afield from the OP, so it is being closed.

Let me add that recordings or scanner feed information is more appropriate in the regional forum concerned. Thanks in advance.
