• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

You really need to decide what you want to listen to first. There are so many scanners out there with many capabilities it is impossible to just pick one and say "This is it"

Knowing the area where you live and the agencies you want to scan will help us to recommend a good scanner.

I've got both the Uniden 396 and 996 but I listen to a mixed mode trunked system.

BR330T would give you some capabilities you don't have now w/o making the jump to digital. Extended receive (.1 MHz - 1.3 GHz), more channels, dynamic memory, plus all of the available analog trunking options.

I agree with UPMAN the BR330T is the way to go. Best scanner I've owned hands down.

But people move, and agencies u/g their systems - I hold that the 396 is the best scanner out there. Besides, it has a cool blue screen!
