Saw it floating around Elk Grove this afternoon at around 1615hrs (4:15om) PST. It was in the Folsom area at about 1820hrs (6:20pm) PST. It's here for the golf tournament this weekend. US Seniors Open, I believe.

California Capital Airshow presents the
Goodyear Blimp STEM Education Project and the Wonders of Flight

WHAT:

The California Capital Airshow (CCA), presented by Sacramento County, is hosting another exciting youth event at Mather Airport! Goodyear blimps have adorned the skies since 1925 and are among the most recognizable brand icons, but the Spirit of America blimp has embarked on its farewell voyage. This aerial ambassador for Goodyear will make a stop at Mather Airport on its first Pacific Coast Tour in nearly a decade during its aerial coverage of the 2015 U.S. Senior Open at Del Paso Country Club.

As a part of CCA’s year-round educational programming we have partnered with the Goodyear Blimp STEM Education Project to invite students to celebrate Goodyear’s 90-year history of promotional airship operations and 60 years of aerial broadcasting. This unique STEM learning experience will share the science, technology, engineering and mathematics behind airship operations, as well as the future innovations Goodyear has planned for the skies.

The collaboration between CCA and Goodyear will provide regional educators an event that highlights STEM concepts related to this massive aircraft including Charles’ Law and Boyle’s Law (air pressure, temperature and volume), Archimedes’ Principle (buoyancy), Newton’s Laws of Motion, density and mass, electronic media, computer programming, mechanical engineering, fabrication and more.

WHEN:

Friday, June 26 at 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

WHERE:

Gate 415 (near Mather Aviation) – see flags at entrance
10360 Macready Avenue
Mather, CA 95655

If you look at the instrument panel of that thing, you'll note that it's fully IFR equipped.

They say that you don't use a stop watch when flying a blimp through a procedure turn on an IFR approach... You use a calendar. =)
