Anyone find a good replacement solution? I used the county lines for finding lat/long for GPS based scanning.

I'd love to know what their excuse for getting rid of the county lines was. It's not as if they change often enough that it was a burden keeping them updated. I'm not impressed with the replacement layers so far, but I guess Google knows better than the rest of us, huh? 
Google never keep them up to date ,same with village/city/CDP boundaries. In my opinion its easier to use the TIGER/Line shapefiles the census bureau makes.

As annoying as their new "roads" overlays that instead of a thin unobtrusive line, it's this fuzzy shady crap that blocks the view of the road itself and things a long side of the road, thus defeating the purpose of the program altogether.
Update , Google has hundreds of complaints about this since September.
There is a KMZ file here USA Counties that does seem to work fairly well. Click on the "show on Google Earth" and it downloads a KMZ file.

I'm sorry my desktop gave out around the time that you replied, I have ordered a new one, unfournately its wont be here untill the 20th of January. Hopefully I'll be able to recover the files via backup and get them posted then.
