Google Maps Integration and FCC data

I updated the googlemaps integration today with FCC data. Google formally released the API to the public, and made some changes.

You can now see sat photos of each FCC license, which means you can literally see photos from the air of any FCC license, tower, antenna etc.

Hi Lindsay...
I get a pop-up from Google that the API key used on rr.com was registered for a different site, that I should go to www.google.com/apis/maps to generate a new key...

Are you accessing RR by going to http://radioreference.com/? If so, you need to start using http://www.radioreference.com/ for Google Maps to work.

Lindsay, you could force users to www.radioreference.com on subsequent page clicks regardless of what path they use to access the site (use a <base> tag inside the <head> tag).

Assuming that whoever filled out the license application used the correct
latitude and longitude to begin with. There are a lot of licenses out there
with the wrong coordinates.

Yes, but then I'd have to customize that base tag to only display on the front page, or customize it per page... I'd be better off setting up a new virtual host listening on radioreference.com - then providing a generic redirect for all reqs to www.

Lindsay,

Is this (the Google API) how the ARTCC maps have been drawn? I thought I might try to do that for Alberta to map out counties/etc, if it was hand-drawable or even lat/long based polygons. But if it's a server-side coding thing, obviously it's beyond my reach.

It is using the API... however it pulls from FAA data which provides the polygon coordinates. If you have them, I could put them into a table and then query them for the draw process.
