I'm looking (in vain) for a desk mic with e flexible 'goose neck' design for a Icom IC-2730A, preferably UNDER $100.
Not a 'boom' mic.

I found this which fits all my 'wishes', but it isn't compatible I was told by the seller (it's 2k ohms & a condenser type);
SM01 Desktop Microphone RJ45-RJ45 connector

The 'Icom' mics, like all all of their accessories are grossly overpriced. I can't really justify the price when there are 3rd party models (above) around at a fraction of the price.
:mad:
There must be something. It doesn't have to be new, but I don't want a 20 or 30 year old mic with 'aging' issues (dried out padding etc.).
Any and all helpful input welcome

Is there a difference between Icoms VHF/UHF radios and their HF radios as far as the mic requirements go? I've found some micvs that list Icom HF rigs, but not dual band V/U rigs.

Other than wiring requirements to the mic jack , and impedance of the element the mic uses, not really. Look at a company called Inrad on R&L Electronics. I think they may have had some things for a DIY gooseneck mic for Icom, but I'm not 100% on that.

I looked at the offerings from Inrad. All they have have are desk-stands and bulky hand held mics, not goose neck and the prices are in the same neighborhood as Icom, over $150.

Anyone else on this Icom HF vs 2 meter/440 radios afa compatibility?? It seems Icom has gone out of their way to lock a owner into their products. :mad:

Look at this mic from MFJ. All you would need is to wire it to the Icom and it should he good to go.

The Mic is $100 (list & street) and the 'cable' is a additional $32. It appears to be a Cat5 jumper cable. Is it straight or crossover? Or is it special wiring??

I did find this one but there are real issues with his 'mod' to the cable and especially that RJ45 plug!!

Heil Sound has options that would let you connect a microphone or headset to your iCom radio. They don't appear to have any "goose neck" stands, but they do have clamp-on arms for microphones.
