I'm really excited about getting my tech license. I am already studying for my general. I practiced for about a week and went and took the test and passed. I used QRZ and a site that I saw recommended here by a user called Hamstudy.org which really helped me out. I tried getting my license when I was 13 but it didnt work out due to bad study habits. 10 years later I finally did it.

Anyway thought I would introduce myself here since Ive been on the site for scanning before. I have two wouxun 1p radios which I have had awhile for emergency communications (basically so I could hear whats going on.

hopefully I'll be picking up a yaesu 7900r for my vehicle.

anyway thanks to radioreference for being such a great place for information. (and the fact that most of my friends called me a dork for getting my license haha)

thanks

Congrats... how long did you have to wait until after you passed the test to get it?

I just took two sample tests and have passed both of them, but am just chalking it up to luck as I had to guess on a few questions. I'm still going to study and hopefully take my test later in December or early in January.

Congratulations! The FT-7900R is a great dual band mobile. You might want to consider the RT Systems programming software - version 4. The radio has many frequencies and options available through the menus, and the programming software makes quick work of loading it up. I also use mine to listen to the local 222 MHz repeaters. It doesn't transmit there but seems to have good RX sensitivity.

Congrats and welcome to ham radio!

Find a local radio club and attend a few meeting. They will be glad to help you spend your money getting the radio that meets your needs. :)

You will be a dork in a flock of dorks.
