My friend called me Thursday night and said he was going down to take his Ham Radio test, I told him I've been wanting to do the same, studied a good part of the day Friday and took the test on Sat.

I aced the Tech test and tried the General, which I had not studied for at all and got within 3 questions of passing it.

I was actually glad I didn't pass the General because I really want to study for it and know the material, not just make a best guess.
I think a huge part of being a Ham is learning all you can about radio. I want to know how my radio works, how antennas work, be able to build some of my own test gear etc.

I really excited, keep checking for my license to pop up on the FCC data base. I have enjoyed Shortwave listening, scanning and radio in general for years, it was about time I became part of it.

To all who think it may be too hard, with some study, spending the time to really learn the material, the Tech test is a breeze.

I took the test in Pocatello, Idaho. It was given by hams from the Pocatello Radio Club, if any of the volenteers are reading this, I just want to say thanks.

I ordered a Yaesu FT-60R handheld, antenna for my vehicle, extra batteries etc. I pretty much expect the radio to come about the same time I get my call sign, I can't wait.

My Best and God Bless, John K

John, congrats! Your on your way to meeting many great people. Radio offers everything from great QSOs to building, to Field day to teaching young kids to Skywarn.

73 my friend and keep on the General, you won't regret it.

Thanks Guys, I'm very excited about getting on the air.

I've ordered books on General radio study, electronics and antennas to start my study of Radio.

Without knowledge, you'll never progress. I'm really hungry to learn all I can. I have not met any Hams in the area yet, but I'm sure I will.

I have found out there are several Ham operators working with our county Emergancy Services department, this is something I intend to get involved in. It's a small rural county which to me makes it all that more important to get involved. If there are any disasters, we will be on our own for a while, radio will be very important.
I'm about an hour away from Yellow Stone Nation Park. If it erupts, I might as well kiss my rear goodbye, but there have been other disasters near by in the past, a burst dam comes to mind.

This is a hobby I've wanted to get involved in for a long time. Dyslexia made it impossable to learn code, now that it has been dropped, I can get my higher tickets without problem, just a lot of study and work.

The Hams who gave the test were great, the test was about 2 hours away. They have a great club, I wish I lived closer. Maybe I can find enough Hams nearby to start a local club, that would be great.

73's, John
