I FINALLY got my new radio in my car. It is an icom v8000 with a comet wideband 3.8 db gain antena. WOW. from se BA I have heard signals like never before. In the brief time I listened, in daylight on a clear day, I picked up bartlesville, pryor, seqyoyah co., Oilton got into a pursuit, cushing...I was amazed. It also scans at the rate of 50 channels a second is computer programable and has an alpha numeric display. On the ham transmit side I can hit the all of tro's repeaters including the one in sand springs. Now if I can juast get a list of more pl tones................

nice radio you have there ....75 watt's is a bit to much for repeater use to me tho . should only need 25-50 to hit those machines . that antenna your using is a sweet set up . dual band is real cool that should do the trick for those out in the middle of know where repeater's . but i didnt know you held a ham radio ticket news to me .

Output is selectable and even programable from the computer. I reserved the 75 watts for simplex operation all repeater was set at 50 watts. The reception is wht is incredible the range. It also is the first scanner I have hd that received the fed freqs well.
Yes the antenna is dual band and while this radio does not requre it I got it fo $10.50 off of ebay...couldnt turn it down for that price. I may in the future by a duplexer so I can run my uhf walkie on it too...though not many police agencies ares though may use it for tarc's repeater.
of course if icom were to make a uhf version...... since I do get all around the state......

Just out of curiosity, what PL tones are you looking for? While I probably don't have what you want, my 2067 does an ultra-fast decode, so I can start looking when I'm out.

I HAVE A 2067 do I do that? I am working on a project for my dept
and we are trying to build a database of radio freqs and tones for
the programable radios in our command post so when we are working
out of this area. The radio shio was no help. Well most of them were not.

Set the mode for PL or DPL, and you should get an instant display of received tones. Use the MODE button. There is also a way to load the received PL tone into the scanner memory channel when you receive it, check the manual.

Do you have the Win92 software? If not, you should get it. It makes it very easy to set/adjust the parameters of the Pro-90/2067.

One thing to remember. While it's not common, it's possible to have separate input and output PL tones on repeaters, or the repeater controller can be set to mask the tone used, so that scanning the repeater output may not always give you accurate information. Sometimes you have to monitor the repeater input. I don't know of any systems like that around here, but it's something to keep in mind.

I'll try that. Win 92 is the only way to go. I program alot of other officers
scanners. The pro 95 is the biggest seller according to RS and alot of officers have them. When they started closing out the 2067 for $88 we got the word out and they were gone in 3 days. I have a couple of different programs set up under it depening on the officers needs. When I bought my new radio I paid extra to get the software for it too. It would of took months to program it. Yes I am aware that some have pl decode on receive as well as transmit. I had a problem with that one a few years back. hey can you im me any pl tones you have for your part of the world I would appreciate it.

This radio/antenna combo impresses me more every day. Today I was picking up Sequoyah co so, Bartlesville, Cushing and Perry pd. Most of those are 70 to 80 miles away with a mobile mount antenna. Why cant
scanners pick up this well??

That's like asking why the saw on a Swiss Army Knife doesn't work as well as a doublebuck crosscut saw used by a logger. The more features you add to an item, the more likely it is that it won't do any of them as well as a single purpose item.

A two-way radio has a different set of design priorities than a scanning receiver. In this case you have a single band radio vs. a broadband radio. The V8000 is optimised for reception in the 136-174 MHz band, where the scanner has to cover 100's of MHz more, That is a design tradeoff.

Oh, let me add that the band has been open lately, so you may not get that kind of reception all the time. But it's likely that your singleband radio will outperform a consumer-grade multiband scanning receiver.
