With the President in the Sacramento area today, I noticed the Secret Service using P25 communications on their regular frequencies. From what I last remember, they were using DES and PL tones. Is P25 for them a new thing? What other gov. agencies are using P25?

BTW, I still hear the ATF using their normal freqs using DES and their standard PL's so I know about them already.

FYI & My two cents...

FYI
I wouldn't be surprised if the feds use Primarily their" Nextels"or whatever Cells or wireless Brand they prefer.

And as Far as SoCAL is concerned,
I grew up in Yuma,AZ and frequented San Diego and the Palm Desert/Springs area/s
And was stationed at the 32nd Naval station in SAn Diego when I was 20
ANYWAYS lol
THe Border PAtrol uses Encryption because of all the drug dealers whom smuggle drug through So CA from MExico
A regualr civialian might be able to buy the latest Digital Scanner out there
BUuut the Avergae Smugger, Drug dealer etc the CAn and will buy one as they have more money.

Whereas the "regular", Police,Sherriffs etc might find it suffecient to just have digital knowing that the average "tweaker" and civilian can't always afford the latest Scanner that has digital..

Anyways,
I'm just saying
regards
Crista

PS THese are Not neccasirily facts just Theories/ educated guesses.

Federal things using P25 right off the top of my head in the central valley and bay area (haven't looked around for a few months so there are likely to be others now):

DOE Lawrence Labs (all bay area and valley locations)
DOE Sandia Lab Livermore
Travis AFB
Beale AFB
Fed Prison Dublin
Fed Prison Atwater
Bureau of Reclamation - New Melones Reservoir - Calaveras/Tuolumne counties
Bureau of Reclamation - Fresno/Friant area
Fed building protection - downtown Sac

FBI seem to be the last big holdout for some reason. I've seen units that still use Syntor X9000's and first generation sabers.

I'll double-check when I have access to my spreadsheet this weekend. I suspect you and I are thinking of the same thing.
