I dont know how "breaking" it is...but supposedly there is a graduation ceremony at East LA college to commence this afternoon...and several students have already dropped in the heat....LASD and Verdugo Fire units are trying to come up with a plan, since the college officials have no watering stations, shade, etc. Also, transformers are beginning to blow all over SoCal.....

It may be an interesting afternoon of scanning.....with the record socal heat....

Heat in SO Cal ?

They don't know heat until they come over here to Arizona, now we have some heat. 110 + F in PHX and over 113 in parts South of PHX for the past 2 weeks.

Even up in the Mountains at 5800 feet elevation it has been 95 F and above for the past 2 weeks.

Whereas down in Phoenix 95 F is the transition temperature range where you can change over and put your long pants and long sleeve shirts away and put on t-shirts and shorts.

As an example of how hot it is over here, if you want a cool glass of water from the faucet in Phoenix in the summer time then you would place the faucet in the Hot water position, the water temp is typically 10 to 20 degrees cooler with this method.

With 3% humidity, it hit 119 this afternoon here in Indio (118 with 2% yesterday, 113 Wednesday), CA. Should be 120 tomorrow. Lived here since '86 (9 yrs as a volunteer ff) and it routinely hits 120 for a week or so, but usually only in July/Aug, so this IS breaking news.
