• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi,

Current status:
@WIN XP Virtual Machine (win7).
Brand new GP388 (EMEA) + new USB cable from autorised motorola dealer + older CPS EMEA =
Couldn't open port. check whether device/rib are powerd on or not, and the device to rib, and the rib to pc connection is ok.

Have now tried to read the radio for some days, as well debugged following the related forum posts in here on the subj. and in other forums, without no luck so far.

Versions:
RADIO - GP 388 VHF:
SW VERSION:03.16.00
SW PART NO:5107414A01R012

CP VERSION: R8.00
CP PART NO:5107880A01

PC CPS:
R03.01.02 (17.apr. 2002)

Have allsow tried with this version as well:
PC CPS:
R03.11.15 (12.09.2010)

Troubleshooting:

Day one:
(1) Error msg. in CPS @Win7=
Cannont create unknown radio component.
(2) Win7 used standard driver for the USB prog. cable, so installed the PL-2303 driver and COMPORT testing software. I found the cable on comport and all good. Select COM port dosent show in CPS in win7 when trying to connect to radio, and CPS is not supported in win 7 OS, so therefore i gave up in win7. Allsow tried running CPS in compatibility mode to win xp and win 2000, still no luck.
(3) From installing CPS in Win7, and fast understood that this is no go, i installed the XP Virtual machine.

Day two:
(1) Installing "XP virtual machine" updated XP with windows update, and installing CPS.
(2) Attached USB serial controller in Virtual machine, but XP didnt find any driver to cable so then installing the PL-2303 software (im not shure if this is the correct driver/software, but when testing the usb cable it says it finds a PL-2303 TA chip on the port its connected via.
(3) So now after 12 hours+ yesterday last night (03:50 AM) i finaly got the CPS to see somthing on the other side (maybe some light in the tunnel Shocked), but it still will not download codeplug from the radio. It have a intersting radio "blackout (when reading device the radio blacks out, and error msg.:
Couldn't open port. check whether device/rib are powerd on or not, and the device to rib, and the rib to pc connection is ok.
(4) Worth mentioning that the i have adjusted COM ports in "device manager" to get it able to read the port at all. Its now set to COM port 01. CPS give some type of error about that it wont read com pors over ~3-4 i think.

Q: What to do?
All feedback is highly appreciated. Feel I have tried everything without success, so i think eather the com cable is crap or the radio have somthing wrong with it. Next will be to take the equipment back to the dealer when it all started.

Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Alexander

Hi again,

Problem solved.
Using a newer CPS and updating the driver to the USB prog.cable did the thing.

Radio Read/Wright works in XP Virtual Machine for now Smiley
