Hi all,
I am currently looking for a GPS and thought I would ask to see what you guys and gals think. I am looking for something with lifetime updates to the maps for one. I would also like to have one that operates off of AA batts if possible as I never have really like battery packs. Any suggestions of such a beast for under a $150.00? If not other suggestions will be fine, just looking for something basic so I can use it in the car as well as portable use.

Thanks,
Joey

Hi Joey:

Check out the Nuvi series by Garmin. We bought a 765 at Christmas, and it came with lifetime map updates and their traffic status feature.

It is an automobile GPS, however you can set it for pedestrian mode. It doesn't have a AA battery pack, but the rechargable battery lasts for a couple of hours.

The basic features I needed in a GPS were the 4.3 inch screen and the voice announcements. I tried the blue tooth feature last month, and that was pretty handy too.

I agree. Check out the Garmin line. You will be surprized at what they can do. I purchased mine about 4 years ago and it is still going strong. Wish mine had lifetime map updates.

I have 3 garmin devices, Two hand held, and one navigation unit for my jeep. I love all 3. Super reliable super accurate, super durable. I once got sucked under the water by a strong current in a strainer with my garmin in my pocket. No issues with it. It even held on to the sats. while I was under.
