Location: Colorado State Highway 9, 9 miles south of Kremmling
On January 4, 2009, at approximately 10:50AM, Colorado state troopers were dispatched to a two-car motor vehicle crash on Highway 9, approximately 9 miles south of Kremmling, Colorado. The investigation has determined that a 2006 Honda Accord was northbound on Highway 9 when it lost control and spun counter-clockwise into the southbound lanes. The Accord was struck broadside by a southbound, 1992 Ford Explorer.
The driver of the Accord was a 19 year-old female from Denver who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Explorer is a 50 year-old male from Houston, Texas. The passenger's age is not known, but is also from Houston. Both individuals were initially transported to Kremmling Memorial Hospital with serious injuries and have since been taken by ambulance to St. Anthony's Central Hospital in Denver.
The identities of the involved individuals are being withheld at this time pending the notification of family.
The road was snowpacked at the time of the crash, and while the investigation is ongoing, it is believed that the Honda was driving too fast for the conditions.
