I was in grand island this weekend. I can’t remember exact talk group info but believe fire station alerting was 50813, response 50809, GIPD 50803. I did not the 800mhz frequencies programmed into my scanner and heard these on the surrounding VHF sites.

also most if not all radios on the statewide system have encryption. Only a few use encryption for dispatch.

After some research and listening I can conclude the G.I. Police did indeed move to the 800 MHz system. I have limited knowledge these types of systems but I can hear GIPD dispatch & admin channels and can occasionally pickup GI Fire & EMS as I suspect they are also following the move. I'm still on the learning curve of this and maybe someone else with more knowledge can chime in.

I have the Uniden BCD996T model which is a great scanner, but my lack of knowledge is with how you determine the control channel on a trunking radio system? Right now, I have the Hall Co. 800 MHz frequencies programed in the scanner, but for example the G.I. Police will be on any one of the number of the channels because it keeps moving to a different freq. I get the general idea of trunking control channels, but my ultimate goal is to properly program my scanner to make sense it all.

1-Create a P25 trunking system
2-Create a "site" for each individual site near you. A minimum create 2 site for each of the 800mhz sites that Grand Island is licensed. Enter the control channels for the sites.
3-Create a group or groups you would like. Example GIPD, GIFD, NSP, and ROC/Statewide.
4-Program the talk groups to the group or groups you want to listen too.

I would highly suggest using programming software. It is a lot of work to program trunking systems via the front panel.
