I haven't tried scanning in the area so you probably want to wait for someone who lives in the area to give you a better heading. A majority of radio traffic should be on the State of Colorado Digital Trunked Radio System (DTRS), but there seems to be some VHF frequencies still listed in the database. Try checking the following:

Colorado DTRS Interstate Travel Reference - The RadioReference Wiki
Mesa County, Colorado (CO) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
Delta County, Colorado (CO) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
Montrose County, Colorado (CO) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Seeing that you'll probably be getting off the Interstate real quickly, the first link will only help you slightly. Try using the database along side the site map to see what sites you will need to program.

State of Colorado DTRS Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies
Site Map: State of Colorado DTRS Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State

From what is obvious on the map, you'll most likely need to program:
294 (Rabbit Valley)
222 (Black Ridge)
289 (GJ Water Plant)
260 (Mesa Point)
251 (Delta)
205 (Sunset Mesa)

It wouldn't hurt to have:
201 (Grand Mesa)
212 (Whitewater)
293 (Tank Hill)
other sites in the area of Montrose if you plan on venturing away from the city.

While there are a ton of VHF channels listed in the 3 counties you plan on traversing, I'm pretty sure a majority of the traffic are now on DTRS. You're definitely going to want to program in for CSP Troop 4A (TGID 8102) and 5C (TGID 8114), but it wouldn't be a bad idea to program in the CSP VHF channels.

Hope this gives you a general direction and await being corrected for any errors I may have listed.

Thank you. I had already placed 4A and 5C in a list. I had a very poor signal and never heard a peep. I will try the other channels.

How do I listen to CSP on this route of 70 and US 50??

DTRS programming in your best control channels and listen away, CSP for this area is dispatched from Montrose but traffic will be fairly limited depending on time of day and weather condos.

Have fun!

Make sure you have 154.905 in your load, that stretch is often monitored by aircraft. All parties involved will be on the old VHF simplex "Channel 3".

I live in Montrose and I know that CSP Troop 5C only goes up to Delta on Montrose dispatch.
I don't listen beyond our county line, so I can't tell you where to go from there.
I do believe that 5C dispatches off of Delta up to Mesa county line.
Edit: every once in awhile I hear a 5C north of Delta say that they can't get in contact with Delta dispatch and use the Montrose center for information.

I use these in and around town

This is exactly what I was looking for. Thank You. I have more than once seen 3 or 4 troopers pulling over cars in a small area. I could not see the plane, but knew it was there.
