The first radio scanner I got was a three-channel crystal scanners so I could hear my dad because he was a police officer at work I was approximately 9 years old. I recall having two channels for OPP. Someone will correct me I think I'm wrong 42.066-42 022 maybe mobile .

At that time many many years ago Sudbury City police then became Sudbury Regional then Greater Sudbury only had two channels one was the main the other I believe some kind of repeater again I was very young at the time. For some years Sudbury went with I would know today as voice inversion my dad said it sounded like single side band or when I yell at you underwater which I laughed

I was into the hobby for many years enjoyed it had many many scanners I'm drawing a blank on makes and models lots of Pro Realistic Uniden Bearcats and I think that's about it currently own a Whistler 1065 and I'm quite happy with it quite a learning curve to get it to program properly and to retain the programming without the errors even though I did a firmware update

As a side note I'd like to thank a couple of people who helped me through some difficult times for my husband passed away and I'm trying to pick up the pieces of my life and I'm doing just fine thanks slowly getting back into the monitoring Hobby it's just OPP where I live that's digital or should I say the Ontario digital Network but not much happens where I am which I suppose is not a bad thing anyway thanks for those that help me I may put an online scanner feed on Broadcastify shortly for my area if someone wants to be my guinea pig to hear sounds good do I have my levels right that'd be great if not I'll figure it out just the same you've all been very very nice extremely knowledgeable and thank you

Depending where you are OPP will be gone as soon as next week (Essex county)
I was up northern Ontario few weeks ago and everything was still on the UHF repeaters and FleetNet still so I'd take a guess you'd have a few more months maybe even little bit into next year since I didn't see any new antennas on any OPP cars and no 700 MHz repeaters yet nor any new towers

So could pop a feed online for a while until it all goes silent anyways. Can't hurt right! Just keep in mind once they change over its over. EMS, MTO Enforcement, Ministry Natural Resources will also be changing over. You might notice EMS switch first then OPP

For those who are lucky enough to still have comms available. i would highly suggest you start logging or compiling a list of EMS units and what stations they are based out of. The same for Hospital patches on what sites. There are a few of us now regretting not having made such a list while the comms were in the clear.

Ideally the list should be
EMS unit XXXX is out of YYYYY on TG ZZZZZ
AAAAA hospital patch on TG ZZZZZ

With EMS encrypted this info may never be super useful BUT not having it can be a real pain in trying to create it from visiting areas and physically observing the units.

Enjoy the OPP while you can. Its going to be gone soon. Wouldn't waste any time trying to stream it as your fine efforts will be wasted.
Thank you, however I've heard the OPP will be encrypting for 20 years and hasn't happened yet. Not to say that it won't, I'll take one day at a time. Should it encrypt so be it, if it doesn't so be it, but thank you very much for the heads up. Always appreciate it and intelligent kind people here thanks

I don't think my time would be wasted. A final thought here, I think it would be good for my locale and also good for me to continue to learn

Sadly it's not a matter of 'if' anymore. New radios are installed and lots of testing being implemented.

Thank you for your information. Nonetheless like I said in an earlier post, if it happens it does, if it doesn't it doesn't, either way I'm okay with it. I don't think I have a choice to be okay or not okay with it but my father was a police Sergeant so I kind of understand why they may do it.
There's a 700 MHz repeater here at the detachment and I know a few OPP officers, Sergeant, an Assistant Detachment Commander I think his rank is, I'm not sure what's up. Maybe Northern Ontario will be spared for a month, a week, a day, an hour. Like I said I'm okay either way with it.
