Just got the GRE 500 this week. It seems like a great scanner but I have to problems: I'm not able to hear the San Angelo police dept on the LTR trucking system with all freq programmed into the radio. (I am able to hear the traffic in the conv mode but that isn't a good solution).

And I have updated the new CPU and Firmware over the net but now the radio is locked down with "Waiting for DSP" message in the window and it won't come out of that message. This isn't the result of download the updates because the radio worked fine after the download.

Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Matt,
It's not a problem with the scanner or your programming.
The San Angelo system uses a different kind of LTR protocol, LTR MultiNet. There are no current scanners that will trunk track LTR MultiiNet. Your only option is to enter the frequencies & listen conventionally.

I have not tried this, but I believe the system possibly can be tracked using a computer, software, and a scanner with a discriminator tap. See this page in the Wiki.

Hopefully they will come up with the software/firmware to be able to monitor the LTR MultiNet system. Good info though.

Did you have any thoughts on my error message?

You're probably getting the "error" on the system because it can't handle the MultiNet control channel, so it does not know how to proceed. If you get the message on a different system, or on conventional frequencies, than that would be something to look into.

That's not going to happen anytime soon. They will have to pay royalties to the company that makes that type of trunked system along with a major firmware and CPU update, if at all possible within the current hardware.

In other words, don't hold your breath waiting for it. If you want to start "rallying" for this feature, there's already a group of people that been hoping/wishing/asking for it for a while now and it's not brand or model specific either, so make sure you "protest" to the scanner industry in general, if you do.

Could the error message ("Waiting for DSP") possibly be related to the "known" problem that occurs when moving between "All Bands" and "Public Safety" in the Sweeper mode?

If it is, you should be able to "fix" it by pressing 0 then 2 right after you turn the scanner ON, while the "welcome" display is shown.

That's certainly been one I've hit several times in sweeper mode. I don't recall specifically if I was switching that way. As Don notes, the 0/2 key sequence works to recover normal operation (and remove the panic that you have just bricked a $500 scanner).
