Radios CAN NOT, repeat, CAN NOT be cloned. They operate the same, but use different CPU's. Which makes them not the same. Read in the sticky about the 106.

Yes, the PSR-500, PSR-600, PRO-106, and PRO-197 can all be "cloned" to each other.
What you cannot do is load CPU or DSP firmware for one make into another (i.e. you cannot use PSR-500 "CPU updater" to update the CPU firmware in a PRO-106).
I dont understand I guess what I am wondering is if I buy a 197 can I clone it to recieve the info off my 500 what about upgrades can you use a GRE upgrade for the Shack model or do you have to wait for Shack upgrades
I guess what I want to do is have my 197 with all the info from my 500 but it sounds like it won't show the same DSP and CPU as the 500 am I correct I may be best just to buy a PSR 600

DSP/CPU never clones from radio to radio. Only working mem or V-Scanner can be cloned.
I think you should be able to use the "Friends and Family" coupon and have the 197 sent to your home with no shipping fees when it is available. The cost with coupon is $350.00 plus sales tax.
