Whenever I set the scanner to search for CB station in "service search" mode it will start scanning the channels. Once it hits on a frequency it will break squelch and I'll hear people talking, no problem.

But then, they will stop talking but the radio will give me a bunch noise with a full open squelch. It will stay that way until I nudge it off frequency. The scanner will then search through the channels not making a noise. If someone starts talking it will then break the squelch and I will hear them talk. Once they stop talking the scanner will leave the squelch wide open and make a big racket.

Is there some setting I am missing? Or will I have to store all the CB channels into a memory bank and scan them that way?

Thanks.

Could be skip going on. Where your receiving so many signals that it just sounds like a bunch of whistles and screeches mixed in with a few strong signals blasting thru. Or has this always happened when you service search CB?

No, it's not skip. The squelch is closed, then if it stops on a signal. I can hear the people talking. They stop talking. But the squelch is left open to white noise. It might be a bug of the radio. Can someone else that has a PSR-310 run a service search on CB to try to replicate my problem?

Thanks for your input!

Ok, I am outta here.
I don't need to update you with what I found with my PSR-310.
Good luck.

I don't understand why you threw a hissy fit. I said thank you for your help. But, no the squelch issue is not due to skip. So I'm just asking for more ideas.

I would venture to guess the people talking are strong enough to open the squelch however that there is some noise or weaker signals that are preventing the squelch from closing once the conversation ends.

Try removing the antenna once the conversation ends and it should start scanning again if this is the case. The only solutions I can think of would be to turn up the squelch, turn on attenuation or use a directional antenna if the signals of interest are from a specific direction while the noise is from another direction.

All good ideas. But I don't have this problem with any other of my equipment. Just this radio..so it makes me think it is some quirk.

But thanks for the tip. I've tried tightening the squelch but have not tried attenuation. The signals are weak as it is.
