This radio is going to be a huge win for the Radio Shack market. Some of the features that Don outlined are pretty cool for the advanced user.

It's too bad that I wasn't a better tester.. :( The vendors tend to keep me in the dark till the last minute.

I have to admit, after reading Don's details I am getting more interested....
Hopefully we can get an eta of when we might see these available.

Now this is the one I have waited for for a year. The I-Scanner with digital! This means the prices on the 106 etc will go down LOL! Will be interesting to see how this goes up against HP1!???

Confused slightly:

20 "Scan sets" that represent groups of enabled scan lists. An object is scanned if: it's not locked out, it's in an enabled scan list, and the scan list is in an enabled scan set. By default, only one scan set is populated and it contains all 200 scan lists."

So will it work the same way as the PSR500 for scanlists, but just using a menu interface to turn on/off? I'm not quite sure I follow that.

If I recall one of the most numerous complaints about the PSR500 was that, unlike the Pro-96, you could not have an Alpha Tag for the tower that the scanner was picking up the signal from, i.e Ohio MARCS system. It looks like GRE has continued to ignor its customer's wants on this feature - Boooo.

gre 800

I have a couple question about the new gre digital scanner. I have been waiting since last summer for it to be released. Note, I used a bc 100 scanner but it, been gone for a long time.

The questions are: 1) I use a iphone with a scan program in it, how much better is is and does it pick up more? Not sure. and please dont flame me. 2) I understand that it will contain the whole United States on a digital card. I like this but can anyone give me there thought on this; good or bad? 3) when will it go on sale? I can't seem to find anythng other that "comming soon". 4) any other things that I should know will be appreciated.

And thanks to all;

That is a great feature on the BC396/996 scanners. I wish it were avialable on the GRE scanners. I'm betting that it's a simple issue of the squeaky wheel not getting enough grease. Had enough of us made a stink about it, maybe it would have been a feature on this.

I spoke at length to Raj about that feature at the Dayton Ham Convention. He was the one who told me about the number of complaints GRE received about the loss of that feature. However it obvioulsy went no where as of now.

Some display elements configurable: TGID number and RadioID (trunking and P25 conv), site name, VC/CC freqs
it looks like it will do it. see DonStar post

That's one of the things I would like to see. I've skimmed the info so far, but I hope you can also add more than 32 freq's per TYS.

I need to go and read in more detail, but if they have made those improvements, I would be happier.

After programming Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, parts of Texas, New Mexico, Montana, Washington state, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming for one trip, I would be happy to buy anything that offers an on-the-road scanner. I like to travel, most of the time, but I hate large programming tasks.

I have been fairly impressed with Home Patrol, but I am rather concerned about that crappy antenna connection. Furthermore, as I have repeatedly said, I prefer GRE to Uniden products based on personal preference & service history.

So, I applaud any new developments by GRE. I am happy to know that two major scanner manufacturers exist in this post 9/11 environment.

I'd like to see a new scanner with bluetooth capability. I know I've seen it somewhere before, here, on a "wish list".
Link your ear-piece to your scanner so you can walk around the house....listen privately in your vehicle without earphone wires getting in the way, etc....

just a thought

Does it have 20 or 200 scan lists? In a metro area 20 are not enough!

Does it have trunked system roaming like the 500?

The Home Patrol is appealing because of the touch screen.

These scanners loose the keypad, eliminating the ability to enter a frequency quickly. At an airshow how does someone enter 123.075 is its not already programmed???

My next scanner purchase (2011) will likely be my last for some years to come until companies come out with a Phase II scanner.. Agencies in my area are planning Phase II and are planning to beat the 2015/2016 mandate.
