Most likely it will work in your attic. In your area it is probably not about a weak signal but more of to much signal from multiple towers.I went to Scanner Master and bought a Yagi antenna. I am still using the new Discone in the attic which is doing pretty good, but still has a couple moments at times of garble. Couple questions, since I am close to 1st district police like 4 miles away, would the Yagi do ok in the attic? And is there a meter that can be attached to detect signal power when aiming like installers use on satellite dishes? Or is aiming a general direction turn a little this way and that way thing? I was going to try a compass app on the phone for direction but didn't see a degrees location in the database that could be used as reference.
That is where my Discone is like 40' up in the attic. I may try the yagi up there today and mess with it. Right now it is on a 4' mast above the garage roof, but being so close to the police district tower 4 miles away I felt that height might work ok. It is garbled now the direction it is aiming to which is close to the direction of the tower. I looked for a compass direction but couldn't find one where it might say the tower is like 170 degrees and use a compass phone app to help aim, so I suppose a inch here and a inch there will have to be the way to go untill that sweet spot is found. But I will try the attic area first rather then on a ladder for a hour messing with it and hope being close to the tower 4 miles away will be fine in the attic. Before downsizing I used a Yagi in my attic 40 feet up. I did not get good results. I then moved the Yagi outside on a 20 ft pole. After many days of adjusting direction I found a sweet spot direction for the Yagi. Since I could never tell which of the many towers it was hearing I did find that the Yagi performed best with the Yagi backside turned towards the closest tower. As an39511 stated, you have to play with direction. Once you find your sweet spot you should do fine.
No conceivable way to listen to my local PD. Is there a way to pick out specifically Brecksville city PD? If so, how do I program it? I’m trying to find what TGID it would be—also as a heads up, Broadview-Heights is actually one of the “Cuyahoga Valley”s. My brother recognized an officer’s voice. They are not using the old VHF frequencies.
They are on the GCRCN system.

Trying to reprogram my old TrunkTracker 3 with the new data.
So what's this I'm reading about DSDPlus? A software that will allow me to listen to P25 trunking on my BC346XT--according to this thread, it's possible. @moonbounceThe Uniden Trunktracker III series of scanners don't support P25 trunking. Most are analog only, except for the BC250D & BC785D with the optional BC25i card.
Here's a link to the Software Defined Radio forum. Software Defined RadioSo what's this I'm reading about DSDPlus? A software that will allow me to listen to P25 trunking on my BC346XT--according to this thread, it's possible. @moonbounce
