I noticed the Cuyahoga Valley talk groups back on the Walton Hills site today.
It all depends on whether or not a system radio is affiliated to that site. I was out that way last week and SW Fire 1 was coming through on the Walton Hills site.

I usually monitor the following TGIDs 56723 56724 56725 56727 56703 56730 56728 56729 56701 56702 56749 56761 56718 56719
56720. For over a year, I have seen them show up on both the Cleveland Simul and Walton Hills control sites. About 80% of the time on Cleveland Simul and 20% on Walton Hills. Now, I have not yet seen any on the Walton Hills site. I am about 3,000 feet from the Walton Hills site.

You have all three frequencies programmed in?

Yes: 851.600000, 852.062500 and 855.137500. I wish I knew what the Walton Hills status actually is. I would like to not bother scanning it if the site is no longer in the loop.

Is the control channel active? If so the site is still there, it just isn't getting used very often. If there isn't a radio affiliated to that site on one of the talkgroups you're scanning you won't hear anything from it.

I recall reading somewhere that Walton Hills was added primarily for the water department and public safety doesn't use it much. The City of Cleveland certainly wouldn't spend around a million plus $$ on the site only to get rid of it a few years down the road; it's always possible they converted it over to a simulcast site, but if there isn't much activity in the area that wouldn't make much fiscal sense.

If you can receive the simulcast site well and the talkgroups you want to hear are always there, you could drop the Walton Hills site from your scan list with no ill effects.

The Walton Hills Site is at their maintenance center on Dunham Rd. There is a well-populated antenna tower. It has been long enough that if something was broken they would have probably fixed it by now. I will assume the Cuyahoga Valley talk groups are no longer using the site and only using the Cleveland Simulcast site(s).

Thanks to those that answered my query.

On Feb 11 it was still showing control channel 855.1375 for the Walton Hills site, as Site 2, because I too wondered, ok did they just make this tower simulcast, and they did not.

I hear that Shaker Heights PD is tentatively scheduled to move to digital in late August and University Heights PD in late September. Let me know if anyone comes across test TGIDs for testing of either of these departments. Thanks.

When I logged onto Broadcastify this afternoon, and selected Shaker Heights PD, the following post appeared: “This agency is scheduled to move to the Cleveland Trunked System (I’m assuming GCRCN is what they’re referring to) sometime in 2021. Audio may go silent after this until the talk group is identified.“ I’m amazed that it’s taken this long but I suppose any news is good news at this point in time.

I ran a wildcard on GCRCN for 24 hours and only got a hit on 56571, which is not in the database, and used RID 1866707. I think this unidentified TG belongs to East Cleveland. So apparently Shaker was not used in the past 24 hours or at least not on a new TG yet.

Shaker must be testing towers. I am hearing them on Hunting Valley, Cleveland and Walton Hills towers. The only RID I have seen is 1845519 which puts that radio right in front of SE/Rich Hts Disp RID.
