They may not encrypt the main dispatch channels

true but i do not see the need in buying a 700mhz radio as the Motorola Maratrac I use to listen now also doubles as my 2 meter ham radio. from what i understand their paging system for fire fighters and ems will be remaining vhf due to equipment issues.

this is true but i live in Oglethorpe which has stayed on vhf hi. i would not need a new radio for my participation in the CERT team and some greene county fire units are keeping vhf hi gear for interoperability with surrounding counties. Putnam was looking at becoming part of the system.

The system Oconee is on now is spotty at best - this system should greatly improve coverage areas and interop when it's all up and running.

if Oconee's system is spotty now it is due to a design flaw somewhere. i can listen to them easily in any of the surrounding counties with out an issue on an old maratrac with a 5/8 wave 2 meter ham antenna.

an upgrade is one thing, a change over to 700 mhz in a hilly area is something different. simulcast systems can be a headache but a windfall to the maintenance provider.

I'm no radio expert but from what I understand this system should work pretty well for them. They have researched it rather extensively.

Stumbled across this control channel of 770.0125 several days ago, decent signal into Glascock Co.
This is what I'm getting from Pro96Com, no activity and no affiliates so far.
