Hello, I live in Kansas but am trying to help a guy in Greenfield get going with a scanner.

He has a Pro-75 which is only a 29-512 non-trunking scanner, so from looking at the database Greenfield is out, but it looks like he should be able to get Milwaukee which is what he is really interested in anyway and only 11 miles away.

So the question is.... is he good to go with the Pro-75 or does he really need a trunking scanner?

Thanks!!
Fred

Monitoring the database
If he wants to be proactive and save himself the hassle of needing to buy replacements in the next couple years, he will get a new scanner capable of monitoring P25 and rebanded trunking systems.

Re-banding is coming, P25 systems are on the air and the City of Milwaukee OpenSky system is un-monitorable and has an unknown time frame for full implementation. I still use a UHF HT1000 to listen to MPD at work.

The 460mhz frequencies listed on your link are quite active. Plenty of action on 154mhz as well. If you're just casually listening, you can 'get by' with a non-trunking scanner at this time.
