Greenville City Police now has 4 Digital channels in operation. Also heard on 800 today Federal Chopper saying they had Grn'vl PD ch-1 programmed in radio and not to use the US Marshals talk-a-round channel.

The freqs are Palmetto 800 / Paris Mtn tower. Well, they are not in the clear unless you dump $500 into a digital PRO-96. Then you find out that digital is not really clear.

I hear you "loud and clear" on that one. I have to imagine that these new transmissions probably sound a lot like a low-bitrate MP3 stream. I'm holding out on a Pro-96 for the time being and/or saving up the money to buy one. But I'm mainly waiting to see whether a lot of local agencies that have hopped on the digital bandwagon decide to jump over to digital + crypto in response to digital scanner availability... :roll:

Most law enforcement people dont know squat about radio tec stuff, only the officer in charge of comms. In 1969 Motorola sold the city of Grn'vl a UHF 460 system to replace the 155.250. Told them it would cost $4000 to get a radio to hear them. I ran an ad in the paper that I had 8ch Bearcats for $139.00 and the comms officer and city manager nearly had a stroke. Wanted a list of all people who bought them-going to take me to court. The list of buyers was all city police officers and medical people. Never heard another word. HaHa.

The good news on the Palmetto 800 is that a minority of users will encrypt,.. they seem to have more brains than FL eh???? The only users that really encrypt are SLED which has NEED to do so,... and Lexington County,.. which really has no need to fully encrypt thier comms,.. though they do it anyway. Now most of the newer users on the system are using digital TG's or combinations of digital and analog. A few of the older users are now adding digital as they feel the need.

Additional reply to proudpuppy. If you had a current copy of the Upstate Scanner Frequency Directory that you can buy at Masters Car Stereo on Washington St or www.bncantenna.com then you wouldnt have had to ask that question. All Upstate Palmettto 800 systems listed on page 1 & 2. Good Luck, Larry

The county may go 800 analog later. Digital would cost a million bucks if they didnt get some grant money. Many more officers in county than city.

And you get to hear them groan and wince and whimper when you tell em they have to buy a digital scanner,.. and then the price range lol! Might become a choice soon of gas in vehicle, or digital scanner for some of them... sheesh. $400 t0 $500 can fill up a few tanks of gas eh?

Programmed 4 wrecker service PRO-96's Wed and one customer came in with 3- BC-796's and a 296. Have yet to complete that project. That was 2,000 and 4 x 500. $4000 in one day. Some people got it, so people dont.
