NOT in Alaska, damnit!
Hello. I'm headed up your way in a couple of weeks and was wondering if anyone has ideas on how to program my 296D for use in Anchorage and Fairbanks. I've been studying your DB and, quite frankly, am stumped by the description of your APCO 25 system. Would simply entering the control channels suffice? Does the system deliver frequency information to the radio via the system? Or, as seems to be the case for a Pro-96, should I seek out some specialized software for the trip.

Thanks from someone who works the equipment but has no idea how the equipment works!

Yes, to both questions. As long as you have the latest firmware installed on your BC296D, it should work fine, I use to have one of those a while back.
Just enter the control channels for the areas your going to be in and the radio should take care of the rest.

P.S. Maybe you'll get lucky by time you get to Fairbanks and get to be in a warming trend, since the past couple of weeks we've been averaging -15F to -30F

Would you beleive it was 80 on Wednesday, then I was in Nome where I found 10 degrees at 9 am? Now I'm back in Denver and today's high will be 74?
