Hi

This may be a dumb question, but I'm very new to scanning (just one a GRE PSR 500 on Tuesday) and I have heard this a lot. I know different agencies in different areas use different codes, etc, but hopefully someone has heard of this one. What is a "grid number" I hear it quite a bit -- the conversation usually goes something like this

OFFICER: What's the case number on this?

DISPATCH: Case number 21809; and grid number 2152

OFFICER: 10-4

thanks in advance everyone!

Don’t know where you’re from but grids here in Tucson referred to a map of the city that was divided into grids and used to track locations of incidents for statistics. We stopped using them when everything got computerized.

You may get a better answer in the Iowa forum ( I am guessing that is what IA stands for)
