To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I guess this is maybe a crazy question but can/is there a CB/10m antenna that can be ground mounted?
I'm still learning (been years) but don't I need some kind of ground plane?

I know that there are many but I'm trying to "sneak" this antenna in a HOA neighborhood and I don't want to make it obvious. Something like a long mobile antenna ground mounted....

Any suggestions or links would be greatly appreciated!

They also make antennas for 10-11-12 meters, so it would be ideal for your CB purpose.
Thanks but too big....I'm thinking a around 10' ground mounted like one for a car/truck......especially so I can remove it when a tropical storm or one of those "H" storms (not gonna say it!) is getting ready to hit.....I live on the coast and we live in the wind :D (keeps bugs away :ROFLMAO:

Thanks for your service BTW!!

Just get about 9ft of anything that’s conductive like wire, a whip, EMT conduit, etc, vertical in the air and connect the center conductor of your coax to it. Then lay out 3 or more wires on the ground about 9ft long each and running in different directions connected to the coax shield then trim the vertical portion for a good match.

Area and size is the problem....where I want to "hide" it would not work with the horizontal parts of the plane....If I'm understanding...it's been a while.....need to get the grey matter back in order.....

Problem is cutting the grass and keeping the puppy safe....maybe I should look at something like the

Solarcon A-99

I could put it on a short galvanized pipe (supposedly doesn't need a ground plane).

That would be the best solution but it’s 18ft tall, I thought you wanted to stay around 10ft tall.

Yea....Now thinking about mounting it on my deck....white deck....white antenna and can take it down when not using!

Suggestions on deck mounting? I guess I could modify a bumper type mount?

Great question and great replies. A ground mounted vertical could be used for 10m when the band's open. Same for CB but with CB, if you want to talk locally it may not be the best choice. However, when the CB band is open, it could work well. Also depends on your elevation, I'm at almost 300' ASL so my 31' vertical with radials works decently on 40 - 10m. Of course I used a tuner and you may need one depending on the antenna's bandwidth. Check the specifications before purchasing.
