I'm gonna install my BCT-7 in my car. I ordered the hardwire cord and fuse tap. Now my question is do I ground it first then hook the scanner up? Sorry this is my first time doing this.

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi, I just installed a fuse tap what you do is run the black ground wire to a bolt if you can’t find one use if you can't find a place like that. Peel back your carpet, find a place to drill a small self tap screw with a nice head (I use 5/16 hex) scrape paint to bare metal and screw down your o-ring connector. Just remember with self tapping screws if you use a drill, stop before you get it completely tight and tighten the rest by hand so the drill doesn't strip the threads or your hole.

For best results run your wire directly to the battery. You should have a fuse on both the positive wire and as extra protection you should also have a fuse on the ground wire. As one of the above posters said do not put the fuse in until everything is connected. By connecting directly to the batter you will have a clean power source.
