Grounding

I am installing a outdoor antenna for my scanner. I am using a 8 foot long copper clad 5/8" diameter ground rod. Should I use #6 AWG bare copper or #6 AWG coated wire. Thank you.

The National Electrical Code says you must bond the new ground rod to your house main electrical panel ground with no less than 6 ga copper wire. There are length restrictions on that where you may have to upsize the wire. See: https://www.mikeholt.com/download.php?file=PDF/Radio_and_Television_2014NEC.pdf

My house is new and already has 2 ground rods for the main electrical panel ground. I wanted to install the new ground rod in a different place just for the scanner.

Ok, but all 3 ground rods need to be bonded together. Bare wire is used for grounds.
