Late to the conversation here, but I've always had better luck with the Canadian CHU than WWV. Just last night I had CHU on 3330 kHz at full scale here in NJ on my ccradio SW using its whip. As far as modern portables, I'm very happy with my Eton Satellit and my Tecsun 680. The ccradio SW is no slouch, but with no bfo SW is a secondary function for it. I like to check in on the amateur bands from time to time.

Thanks for the info. I'm in Orlando Florida, so I'll give it a try. The Satellit 750 is a fun radio to operate! Thanks!
