I just bought one off of Craigslist, I was just wondering what people thought of these recievers.
I have a Tecsun pl 600 & 660.
The 800M is a tecsun eton just slapped the Grundig name on it.
I know the early versions has some problems and the one I bought was aug 2000 Version but it seems good.
The only thing I noticed that the VFO at times was jumpy but I cleaned the VFO and lubercated it now it doesn't get jumpy.
I have a feeling that some of the problems with this radio was due to users expecting 1K performance and build in a $500 radio.
I read that the volume, bass, treble and squelch were wobbly they are a bit but so are alot of the radio's controls in the past 20 years.
"They don't build them like they used to" but if you take care of them, with mine I took it apart cleaned the boards with electronic cleaner and used deoxit on the vol, bass, treble and squelch (even though they were not scratchy) and the radio is 11 years old.
I have been pulling in stations that I never heard before, I like it and it is BIG, I like big radio's.
Shortwave radios should be big!!!!
The powersupply dates states that it was built june 2002 and I put a rf choke on the wire before the plug that goes into the radio to cut down on the RF noise.
The complaints that the huge lcd makes interference is correct but what do people want, that lcd is huge and once you hook up a 23 foot longwire ALL the noice goes away.
Of course the internal antenna picks up the LCD interference it's right next to it!
This radio was actually made to have a external antenna the internal is a plus.
AND the internals were the same as the drake SW 8 and that was a great radio.
sync is great on this radio.
