Grundy 911 Now Online

By: November 17, 2004

According to Don Hutcheson, Chairman of the Grundy County 91 emergency Communications District, the Grundy County Enhanced 911 system is online as the primary emergency dispatch for all of Grundy County and the cities within our county.

Dial 911 if you require emergency services such as police, fire, rescue, or EMS. Officially referred to as Mountain Central E911 and located in Monteagle, the daily activities are overseen by Monteagle Police Chief Lee Parker. Calls to 911 are being answered around the clock at the center and dispatched to the appropriate departments. The non-emergency phone number is 931-924-2077.
The new system's equipment allows dispatchers to identify the address from which the phone call is being placed. This information will help assure emergency responders that they are at the correct location. The feature is very useful in the event that the caller is unable to communicate verbally with the dispatcher (for example, a very young child) as responders can be directed to the emergency with only the suspicion of an emergency.
Grundy County has installed several road signs based on data from the extensive mapping performed over the past two years. The signs agree with the address information available to the dispatchers. If residents or businesses wish to further identify their location, they can obtain their 911 address markers from their local fire departments.
Mountain Central E911 is working well and will continue to improve as various additional functions are brought online. Grundy citizens and our very important emergency responders will surely reap the benefits of this state of the art system.
