Sheriff’s Department Forms Crime Unit

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department announced Monday the formation of a new “Aggressive Crime Enforcement Special Operations Unit” or ACE for short.
This new unit was formed thanks to monies received from a Homeland Security Grant, according to Sheriff Brent Myers.
The unit will be utilized to serve high-risk warrants, enter methamphetamine lab locations, containment of hazardous chemical spills and other high-risk situations that might occur. The unit is made up of seven officers from the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department and two paramedics from the Grundy County EMS with more officers to be added later.
Each officer will receive specialized training for different situations along with team training. The officers for the unit were hand picked by the sheriff and must meet certain requirements.
According to Chief Deputy Lonnie Cleek the unit now has the equipment needed to begin training but other items will be needed as the training progresses. The first training session was held on May 22 and the unit should be fully operational by the end of the summer.

RE:Grundy Ace

Sounds great! Grundy County needs aggressive law enforcement to help the area shed it's image as being a haven for car thievery, chop shops and meth labs. I think Grundy and Cocke Counties share the dubious distinction in Tennessee of having criminal enterprises being their primary industries. Good luck!
