GSP/NJTA 220 MHz TRS

So now to throw another wrench into the equation: will the NJ Turnpike move their Towing & Roads Operations from UHF/VHF to the new 220 MHz Trunked system? From what I remember in the article last year, I believe they are going to merge both highway radio systems into one digital TRS. Any further insight on this "from the inside scoop?"

ACSB is an entirely different modulation then AM or FM. It is similar to single side band. The 220 band history started when UPS wanted a nationwide setup and the hams were forced to give up some very lightly used spectrum. 220 has been tried in several areas for business without much success. Now if a private vendor is constructing the system it becomes cost effective for the vendor since they will have a contract with the user guaranteeing them income. This will be like the Tyco tinker toy system arrangement in Florida.
How come they can't go on the state trunking system?

BTW to those who said they need to monitor the weather, go look at the traffic cams located throughout the state and push the state to add them to the GSP.

I am surprised in NJ that one garage will allow another garage to hear them. Why every borough and tiny village needs their own channel only in NJ>

It is true they are moving to a 200 megahertz trunked system. I spoke to an authority there on a radio related matter.

The hopeful projected operational date according to him was April 1.

If they plan on using the new system on April 1, they better start installing radios in the vehicles, taking out the old 800 radio, cables, speakers, antennas and installing all new in the maint fleet, building & elect, ats, toll vehicles, wreckers, toll plazas, safety, motor pool, and department & division heads to name a few will take a while... :)
