In Macon? You may want to see if the Macon area GSP has moved over to the Macon/Bibb TRS. In the Metro Atlanta area, they operate on the Atlanta TRS. LoBand, even though licensed, doesn't exist in most GSP units. 154.680 (base) 154.800 (mobile) is their main channel.

The problem is you dont have a gigantic antenna. Look at the antenna on the GSP units, unless you have an antenna tuned to their freq. you arent going to hear much unless you close to a unit or the GSP post.
They are using one of the oldest statewide radio systems in the nation, there is no repeater at all, unless your in Atlanta.
Its not uncommon for a trooper having to get dispatch to relay what another unit is saying.

There has been a lot of static on the VHF hi frequencies. Remember, the trees have leafed out, and a lot of wx fronts moving through with dx probably mixing in. The best is listening to the GSP base frequency of 154.680.
